Kayaking, Canoeing, and Paddleboarding
Paddlers of all types can explore the Sunshine Coast’s seemingly unlimited coastal bays, saltwater fjords, offshore islands, and freshwater lakes. With Vancouver Island serving as a natural buffer, much of our coastline is sheltered, providing good protection from the elements and ensuring your paddling adventure is that much more enjoyable.
Choose from freshwater or ocean paddling and even whitewater kayaking (for experts) at the famed Skookumchuck Narrows. The renowned Powell Forest Canoe Route is a favourite with freshwater paddlers—it’s an iconic 57 km, 8 lake, 5 portage paddling journey that takes roughly five days to complete, but there are also plenty of lakes in the region that are perfect for day trips. Looking to get out on the ocean? Don’t miss the spectacular beauty of Desolation Sound or Sechelt Inlet. Both are beautiful, fjord-like waterways where the mountains plunge into the sea, providing some of the most incredible paddling experiences in the world.
Over 20 Provincial Marine Parks dot our sunny coastline, many offering anchorages, marine access-only camping, pit toilets, and other amenities for paddlers.
