Is there anything better than ice cream on a warm day? Luckily, the Sunshine Coast has plenty of local spots serving cold, creamy treats—from classic scoops to milkshakes to ice cream sandwiches.

Keep in mind that many ice cream stands on the Sunshine Coast—especially in more rural areas—are only open seasonally. Be sure to check in advance for hours of operation.

e.b.'s Ice Cream, Sechelt

Conveniently located in downtown Sechelt, e.b.'s has big things in store for 2025. This take-away ice cream truck, located at the corner of Sunshine Coast Highway and Cowrie Street, will be expanding to a brick-and-mortar location. Besides delicious ice cream (which comes from beloved Rocky Point in Port Moody, as well as their own small-batch custom creations), you can expect plenty of indoor seating, an expanded menu, and more.

You'll find everything from the classics, including cotton candy, bubble gum, and chocolate to fan favourites like the New Zealand-style Hokey Pokey (vanilla mixed with chunks of honeycomb toffee). Prefer something lighter? The citrus-forward sorbet flavours are a great palate cleanser, especially in between more decadent bites of double chocolate raspberry and espresso flake.

Wild Scoop Ice Cream, Powell River

This artisanal ice cream shop in Powell River is anything but ordinary. Wild Scoop serves New Zealand-style real-fruit blended soft-serve (made with grass-fed dairy from Vancouver Island) in hand-rolled waffle cones. Choose your base: a classic vanilla or the vegan creamy coconut, then add your fruit. You can opt for blueberry, strawberry or blackberry or try the mango or black currant, among others.

Wild Scoop also serves up hard ice cream, with both dairy and plant-based options that rotate depending on the season. Cult-favourites include the Salted Caramel, Aztec Chocolate, Bourbon Maple Bacon, and the Straight-Up Strawberry.

Sugar Shack, Savary Island

Sugar Shack is one of just a handful of storefront businesses on Savary Island, which tells you how much of a staple this sweet treat shop is to both residents and visitors alike. Set in a candy-coloured, nautical-themed building on the west side of the island, this summer-only stand serves up frozen treats, from ice cream scoops and sandwiches to popsicles.

While the Sugar Shack is a destination in its own right (and an ideal mid-bike stop), you can also take your ice cream to-go and head to the nearby beach.

Mike's Place, Gibsons

It's hard to miss Mike's Place—just look for the lineup of gelato-hungry locals (and visitors) milling outside of this Gibsons institution. Mike’s has been churning out a wide array of decadent, rich, and velvety gelato since 2003.

Made in-house using fresh and all-natural ingredients, you'll find dozens of flavours to choose from, including Italian-inspired options like tiramisu or limoncello, as well as more indulgent choices like raspberry cheesecake or the ultra-rich hedgehog. There are also lactose-free options to try. Take your cone to-go and eat outside on the sidewalk patio or stroll down to Gibsons Harbour in search of coastal views and marine life.

Little Spoon Ice Cream, Sechelt & Retail Locations

This small-batch ice cream company specialises in from-scratch pints, ice cream sandwiches, and custom-order cakes—all made with a commitment to sourcing the best in organic, local, and sustainable ingredients. While they operate a roving ice cream truck (look for them in Sechelt's Davis Bay), you can also find their goods stocked at various locations around Gibsons, Roberts Creek, and Sechelt.

Little Spoon's core flavours—like Higgeldy Piggeldy (a vanilla base with fudge and brownie), Triple Strawberry, and Zebra (a twist on cookies and cream)—are available year-round, alongside specials that make use of seasonal ingredients. Ice cream cakes serve a crowd (no celebration needed to indulge in one of these!), and their ice cream sandwiches are perfect for post-bike ride treats, beachside snacks, and picnics in the park.

Bygone Parlour, Powell River

Bygone Parlour is evidence that some things should never change. Billed as an "old fashioned fountain service," this sweet shop is located in a character home on Ash Avenue in Powell River's Historic Townsite District.

This nostalgia-inducing spot is known for handspun milkshakes (with dozens of flavours to choose from), classic sundaes, ice cream floats, and sodas. Snag a seat at the counter, or have your sundae on the veranda outside. In need of a cut? In a true retro twist, the shop also offers haircuts and shaves. Post-visit, wander the Historic Townsite district or head to Third Beach where you can soak in the sunset.

Farm Stands, Concessions & More

Farm stands across the Sunshine Coast are stocked with small-batch, local goods. Look for Langdale-based Sparrow & Piper treats at Heart and Sol Coastal Farm in Sechelt, or SassyMacks's Ice Cream at their seasonal stand in Lund.

There are also some new options on the scene in Sechelt this summer. The team behind The Wobbly Canoe is opening a new soft serve ice cream trailer in June called Udderly Delicious. And nearby Gourmet Girl is serving up Dole Whip, a vegan treat that’s perfect for pineapple lovers.

Seasonal concession stands like the Beach Hut in Powell River are also offering up cold treats. Along with milkshakes and ice cream sandwiches, they are serving up eight flavours of handmade "pirate pops," including Tropical Ginger and Black Cherry Creamsicle. You'll also find ice cream on offer at Putters Mini Golf, where you can opt for a cone or bowl and indulge in flavours ranging from rocky road to green tea.

And of course there are numerous general stores and grocery shops on the Sunshine Coast that stock ice cream. You're truly never far away from being able to indulge in a cold treat!
