Location & Trail Notes

The trailhead for Burnett Falls is located at the eastern end of Burnett Road in Sechelt. From downtown Sechelt, head north along Wharf Avenue, and take a right on E. Porpoise Bay Road towards Porpoise Bay Provincial Park. Keep following the road, which turns into Sechelt Inlet Road, before taking a right onto Burnett Road. Park along the road near the sign to the hike. There is enough room for a handful of cars to park, but be mindful that this is a relatively popular hike; leave enough room for yourself and others to turn around.

The hike into the waterfall is less than one-kilometre-long, with only 35 metres of elevation gain. It takes roughly 20-30 minutes round-trip (at a relaxed pace) to complete this out-and-back hike, making it accessible for families and new or casual hikers. The groomed path is relatively wide, well-established, and easy to follow.

From the trailhead, the path follows a gentle incline through the forest and alongside Burnett Creek. A few metres in, you'll find a picnic table where you can pause for a snack. Continuing on, the trail quickly veers to meet the banks of Burnett Creek. Here, the surrounding forest is part of what makes this trail so special. Large cedars and firs stretch overhead while ferns and understory plants line the pathway. On sunny days, the light filters through the forest canopy, illuminating the creek as it winds alongside sections of the trail.

As you approach the hike's end, you'll see peek-a-boo views of the waterfall through the forest foliage. A few minutes later, the hike opens up to a viewing area near the base of the falls where you can rest on the bench, snap a few photos, and soak in the cool, misty air. While Burnett Falls is accessible year-round, each season offers something unique:

  • Spring: Peak waterfall flow, thanks to heavier rainfall and snowmelt.
  • Summer: Lower water levels reveal more of the rock face; ideal for a quick shaded forest walk on warm days.
  • Fall: Misty mornings and vibrant green moss create a classic Pacific Northwest atmosphere.
  • Winter: A low-elevation hike through still-green forest offers an alternative to winter activities like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
