Campfires
As of noon on May 15, 2026, campfires are allowed in specific areas of the Sunshine Coast. The Coastal Fire Centre is lifting their campfire ban as of noon on Friday, May 15; however:
- Campfire bans remain in place for the Town of Gibsons, the City of Powell River, and Texada Island (as per their local bylaws and/or local fire department).
- BC Parks campgrounds are allowed to have campfires as of noon on Friday, May 15.
- All other fire departments in our region are proceeding with the lift on noon Friday, but have urged the public to exercise EXTREME CAUTION should anyone consider having a campfire. It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that burning is done in a safe and responsible manner and in accordance with regulations.
- If unsure, it's best to contact the local fire department in the area where you wish to have a campfire.
The use of CSA-rated or ULC-rated cooking stoves and portable campfire apparatus that use briquettes, liquid fuel or gaseous fuel is allowed, as long as the height of the flame is less than 15 cm tall. Click here for a quick overview of Provincial restrictions, or here for more specific details on the restrictions in the Coastal Fire Centre area, which includes the Sunshine Coast.
Call *5555 on a cell or 1.800.663.5555 (toll-free) to report a wildfire. A new BC Wildfire Service app is now available for download, and includes interactive maps, news and advisories, and a reporting tool. You can also view an interactive map here.
*Please note that campfires are always prohibited in certain areas, including within the Town of Gibsons and the City of Powell River, as well as in certain parks and outdoor areas. Campfires are also prohibited on Savary Island in July, August, and September.
Water Restrictions
Stage 2 water restrictions are in effect as of June 5, 2026 for water users on the Chapman water system within the Sunshine Coast Regional District (including the areas of Langdale, Roberts Creek, Sechelt, Halfmoon Bay, and Secret Cove). Stage 1 water restrictions are in effect for other areas of the Sunshine Coast.
The Sunshine Coast faces increased demand on drinking water resources during periods of drought. Conserving water is a collective effort—familiarize yourself with local water restrictions before you arrive and learn more about how to conserve water during your trip.
