How to Get to Gibsons for Tourism Challenge Participants:
For the Tourism Challenge, we recommend you consider public transit and taking the ferry as a foot passenger. While car travel is an option, it does require a bit more advanced planning and wait time for the ferry. If you'd like information on travelling via car, please visit our "Get Here" page.
Travel on foot/via public transit:
Gibsons, BC is located on the Sunshine Coast, just a 40-minute ferry ride away from Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal in West Vancouver. BC Ferries offers regular service from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale (Sunshine Coast).
From Vancouver, Translink provides ample service via the SkyTrain & public bus connections to get to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal. Translink service between Vancouver and Horseshoe Bay via the 257 Horseshoe Bay Express or 250 Horseshoe Bay routes will be your go-to options—just be sure to check ahead for ferry departure times to ensure you make your connection, and take into account that buses may not always be exactly on time.
Once you've arrived at Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal, purchase a walk-on passenger ticket from either the self-serve kiosk or the ticket agent for the Horseshoe Bay to Langdale route and proceed to the waiting room and then board the ferry when called. It's recommended to arrive ~30 minutes prior to departure for walk-on passengers.
When the ferry docks in Langdale/Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast, foot passengers exit from the bottom vehicle deck. From there, walk approximately 200m to the passenger pick-up area and bus shelter.
From here, BC Transit offers regular bus service to Gibsons Landing, where the Gibsons Visitor Centre, Gibsons Public Market, and Tidepools Aquarium are located via the #1 Bus (Sechelt-Gibsons/Langdale Ferry). From the Langdale Ferry Terminal, take the #1 Bus to Lower Gibsons: Marine Drive Shelter (about an 8-10 minute bus ride). Getting off at the Marine Drive Shelter will have you within 10-15 minutes walk of all the Day Out locations.
