Mountain Biking on the Sunshine Coast

Mountain Biking on the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast is becoming recognized as one of the premier mountain biking regions in Canada.  The BC Bike Race travels the length of the Coast each July.  So grab your bike and come 'Ride Where the Pros Ride'!

With year round riding and a labyrinth of trail systems, it's no wonder the Sunshine Coast has become a must-ride destination for racers and recreationalists alike. Road cyclists will be challenged and amazed by the 70+km Hwy 101. This scenic masterpiece weaves along the shoreline before giving way to the inland lakes near Pender Harbour.  Don't be afraid to seek the road less travelled as there are countless great routes beyond the Hwy. both on the Lower & Upper Sunshine Coast.

Lower Coast Mountain Biking

The Sunshine Coast is broken into several riding areas all interconnected by forest service and hydro access.

Sprockids Park
This area, just 2 km from the Langdale ferry, is the world's first Sprockids park. The area features a progressive skills park including dirt jumps, wall rides, and a pump track.  It also supports a large network of beginner to intermediate single track.
Must ride: Sidewinder to Hwy 102

The B and K - Roberts Creek
Home of the Sunshine Coast bike fest, the B and K supports the largest and most diverse network on the Coast. Gravity enthusiasts will appreciate the well groomed forest service road, which provides access to a network of trails from mild to wild.
Must ride: Hwy 103

Trout lake - West Sechelt
Simply described as single track paradise! The Wakefield Valley is loaded with a seemingly endless supply of rolling single track trails that connect private lakes and stunning ocean and mountain vistas.
Must ride: Parbac

RockABilly - near Sechelt
A 2 kilometre single track climb made challenging by loose rock. Ride is up from either direction, then it is at times challenging to maneuver on the downhill with more rocks. Directions: Marked with signage. At the end of Mason Rd, pick up the forestry road, best bet is to use the attached GPS.  Difficult.

Sergeants Bay/Connor Park - Halfmoon Bay
A 20 plus kilometre network of cross country singletrack trails from beginner to advanced.  Lots of rooty old school trails to keep you smiling for hours!
Must ride:  Pterodactyl

Pender Harbour Trails
The Pender Harbour Mountain Bike Community is busy creating many new singletrack trails that will complement the Suncoast Trail System.  A great connector from Halfmoon Bay to explore the scenic Pender Harbour area.
Must ride:  Dry Feet, Cougar, and Scary Hill Bypass

Check out the bike shops on the Sunshine Coast for local trail knowledge, maps, and guiding and rentals.  Many resorts are bike friendly and offer guiding and rental options as well.

Upper Coast Mountain Biking

Penticton Trails
This is a system of beginner and intermediate trails right on the edge of town.  There are over 20 kilometres of single-track trails that can be accessed from the top of Penticton Street.  Check out the Powell River Cycling Association's website for the latest map as new trails and improvements are ongoing.

Duck Lake Trails
This 48 km of inter-connected trails east of town offers much in the way of scenic rewards, including boardwalks, waterfalls and lakes.  Most trails are at an intermediate level with sections of advanced (steep switchbacks, narrow trail near ledges, narrow crossings).  A good part of the 2010 BC Bike Race used these trails.

Edgehill Trails
Another intermediate system of trails is accessible from the edge of town, which starts at the end of Abbotsford Street.  These trails connect to other trail systems and can provide easy access to the backcountry.

Powell River Recreation Complex
Lot 450 trails which offer lots of great riding right in town.  McFalls Creek & Kingfisher Trails are two of the best single-track trails and connect to Willingdon Beach Park and the Beach Trail.

Suncoast Cycle
This trail system south of town provides lots of intermediate riding on multiuse trails.  They can be accessed from behind Suncoast Cycles off Kristensen Road or up the Duck Lake Forest Service Road.

Wilde Road - Marathon Trail
An intermediate to advanced trail system that is part of the Sunshine Coast Trail.  Access is up from Wilde Road to the Theodosia Forest Service Road Branch 10.  There are a number of trails in this area that provide some steep downhill sections.
