Cultural Treats

With more artists per capita than any region in Canada, the Sunshine Coast proudly waves its artistic flag - the Purple Banner. From Langdale to Lund, the flying purple flag indicates the home studio or gallery of a Sunshine Coast artist at work.  Talented people are drawn to the natural beauty and laid back lifestyle of the Sunshine Coast, and its growing reputation as an arts and culture centre is much deserved.  Artisans, writers, craftspeople, musicians, filmmakers...the list continues to grow and we are blessed to have such talented and fascinating people in our midst.

Coast Cultural Alliance is a network of arts, cultural & heritage groups and individuals working to enhance the economic vitality of the Sunshine Coast through the cultural sector. They have a comprehensive Calendar of Events for all things under the Arts & Culture umbrella.  Be sure to check this out when you come to the Sunshine Coast.

Purple Banner self-guided tours-including stops on Gambier and Savary Islands invite you to drop in on working artists. Pick up the Purple Banner Guide on BC Ferries and in public places, and watch for the banners on display at home studios, galleries and other art resources.

Blue Artisan signs along the highway and main roads point the way to artists' working studios, whether centrally located or tucked away.

The Van Dop Arts & Cultural Guide provides information on artisans throughout British Columbia, including the Sunshine Coast.

Wonderful local musicians can be heard in venues up and down the Coast, whether it be soft jazz accompanying your special dinner, rockers at a community hall, Celtic fiddlers, a string quartet or free outdoor summer concerts. Clubs, pubs, coffee houses, parks, festivals...there's always an opportunity hear excellent live music. Check the Weekly Arts & Culture events for upcoming performances.
